Legends!
Starring Joan Collins and Linda Evans at the Barbara B. Mann Performing Arts Hall April 26-29. A comedy by Tony Award-winning author, James Kirkwood (author of A Chorus Line), centers on two somewhat desperate and waning movie stars named Sylvia (played by Collins) and Leatrice (played by Evans). Both actresses are courted by an unscrupulous young producer to star together in a Broadway show, despite the fact that they have hated each other for decades. Swing!
The musical with a great big exclamation mark plays at Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre runs through June 9, 2007. The Tony nominated Swing! celebrates the music and dance phenomenon that swept the nation in the 30's and 40's. With the resurgence of dance shows, dance has again become one of the fastest growing trends across the country. Performances are Wednesday through Sunday evenings with selected matinees. Scapino
A comic adaptation from Moliere's classic plays at the Florida Repertory Theatre in downtown Fort Myers runs through June 9. Wily servants outsmart their masters while young lovers are kept apart by their parents. This irreverent adaptation of Moliére's "Les Fourberies de Scapin" is performed by the Florida Rep ensemble. Access Concert Series
The Gulf Coast Symphony concludes its Access Concert Series Saturday, April 28, at 7:30 pm at the Santini Center for the Performing Arts located at Bishop Verot High School. The concert will feature twin prodigies Christina and Michelle Naughton as they perform Poulenc's Concerto for Two Pianos. The Gulf Coast Symphony, conducted by Andrew Kurtz, will also present Beethoven's Symphony 7 and A Short Ride on a Fast Machine by John Adams. Tickets may be purchased at the Barbara B. Music - Versatile Broadway star Susan Egan performs at the Naples Philharmonic Center for the Arts through Sunday, April 29. Egan received Tony and Drama Desk nominations as the original Belle in Disney's Beauty and the Beast. She also won accolades for her starring role in Thoroughly Modern Millie and as Sally Bowles in Cabaret. Music - The Second Annual Jazz in the Park concert sponsored by Smooth Jazz, WZJZ, 100.1, from 4-10 pm at Veterans Community Park in Lehigh Acres. The charity concert benefits Lehigh Community Services, a group that assists low income families with food, medicine and other essentials. This year's headliner is Nils, a German guitarist with the number 1 hit "Pacific Coast Highway." Art & Wine - Restaurants and bars in the River District in downtown Fort Myers host the Art of the Wine Festival from 4-9 pm. The event features live jazz, original artworks and wine sampling at sponsors such as Hideaway Sports Bar, Patrio 33, Spirits of Bacchus, The Cigar Bar, Morgan House, The Brick Bar, H-2 and The City Tavern. Art - The Florida Fine Art Gallery will host eye-opening Saturday morning coffee hours in April from 10:30 am to noon. Art lovers, collectors and fellow artists are invited to stop by and enjoy complimentary coffee and conversation with one or more of the gallery's artists. Charity Event - Robb & Stucky Interiors will host a charity event for the Imaginarium Hands-on Museum at their showroom in Fort Myers on Saturday, April 28. The event will feature a live performance by the Mambo Brothers, specialty martinis by Envie Lounge, a cigar rolling demonstration by Cigar Bar, Hors d'oeurves by Jayne's Victorian Garden, and last but not least a candy bar filled with your favorite childhood candies. Music - The final Jazz Alliance 2007 concert at the Alliance for the Arts will feature the Ross-Levine Quartet with guest vocalist Wendy Pedersen on Saturday, May 12th. Saxophonist Billy Ross and pianist Mike Levine have been making music together for over 30 years. Both met while attending the University of Miami Music Program in the late 70's. It was there that the two formed a Jazz Fusion Group, which led to a national release album, featuring Pat Metheney. The album "That Summer Something" was on the Jazz on AOR charts for 6 weeks in the top 10.
Since then, the Ross-Levine Band has played a variety of engagements, from opening acts for Gato Barberi, Michael Franks and Dionne Warwick, to performing at Jazz on the Green in Sanibel. For tickets call (239) 939-ARTS or visit www. artinlee.org for more information.
Art - The next exhibit at the Alliance for the Arts showcases a uniquely recognized artist. Pieces by Sherry Rohl have been selected by three different jurors for top honors in the Annual All-Florida Juried 2D-3D exhibition.
