Bishop Verot wins A-Team championship
Final match of A-Team Challenge 2007 ended with Bishop Verot High School as the winner and Cypress Lake High School as the runner up. This exciting match will air on Saturday, May 26th, 7 - 8 p.m. during prime time on NBC-2. NBC-2 will show the quarterfinals on Saturdays at 1:30 p.m.
"We congratulate all thirty-one teams that competed in this year's A-Team Challenge," said Marshall Bower, executive director of The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc.
"It is nice to see such good sportsmanship and intelligence among our area youth," said Bev Burke, program manager for the Foundation.
The A-Team Challenge is a major project of The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc. in partnership with NBC-2 and The Lee County School District. The Bonita Bay Group and Florida Gulf Coast University made the A-Team Challenge possible with sponsorships.
The A-Team Challenge is the only area high school televised academic competition in southwest Florida. Thirty-one southwest Florida area high schools competed in this year's tournament, hosted by NBC-2 News anchors Craig Wolf and Paul LaGrone. It recognizes academic excellence and fosters pride and a spirit of competition among area high school students, coaches and teachers. Students answer questions in the areas of language arts/humanities, social studies, math and science. Each team is comprised of four students and two alternates.
The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools, Inc. was established in 1986 as a nonprofit corporation. Its mission is to enhance the quality of public education in Lee County by increasing community involvement in, and support for, Lee County district public schools.
