Blood Drive to combat holiday shortages

The Lee Memorial Blood Centers and Naples Community Blood Center are teaming up on Tuesday, June 26 for a community blood drive.

The Lee Memorial Blood Centers located at Cape Coral Hospital, HealthPark Medical Center and Lee Memorial Hospital, as well as two Bloodmobiles located at the Bell Tower Shoppes, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

"Our goal is to collect 250 units of blood in preparation for the Fourth of July," said Nancy Hendrick, LMHS Blood Center Community Relations Coordinator. "Unfortunate ly, our need for blood increases dramatically around holidays."

Blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good general health. Donors should also bring a photo I.D. and a list of any current medications. Type O blood is especially needed.

In addition to chance drawings for special prizes Lee County donors will receive a "Stars & Stripes" CD case.
