Autism walk set for Sept.

The Lee and Collier County kickoff for the Southwest Florida Walk NOW for Autism will be held on Saturday, September 8 from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at Grandezza Country Club, 11471 Grande Oak Boulevard, in Estero. The Charlotte and Sarasota County kickoff will be held on Saturday, September 15 at the Cultural Center of Charlotte County, 2280 Aaron Street, Port Charlotte, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm.

Admission to both events is free and lunch will be served. Attendees will learn about the mission of Autism Speaks and how they can participate in the walk.

Today, 1 in 150 children is diagnosed with autism (1 in 94 boys) and a new case is diagnosed almost every 20 minutes. Autism is the fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the United States. More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined.

The Southwest Florida Walk NOW for Autism will be held on Saturday, November 10 at the Estero Community Park, 9200 Corkscrew Palms Boulevard, Estero. This is a fun, family day that includes music, food and entertainment. Last year's walk drew over 2,000 participants and raised nearly $200,000. Event sponsorship opportunities are still available.
