Edison Estates offering gardening class

The Edison & Ford Winter Estates is offering two gardening workshops, Create your own Moonlight Garden based on the award winning restoration of the Edison Moonlight Garden on Wednesday, July 25 and again on Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 11 a .m.

Estates horticulturalist, Debbie Hughes, will provide insight on landscape design, plants used in night gardens for their luminous colors and evening fragrance, and information about night time blossoms as well as tips and techniques. Garden enthusiasts will be inspired by one of America's first female landscape architects, Ellen Biddle Shipman as they tour the award winning Edison Moonlight Garden which she designed in 1929.

The Estates Garden Shoppe will be open for visitors to purchase moonlight garden plants as well as palms, herbs, butterfly garden plants and other plants from around the world that Edison nurtured on the Estates.

Registration is $10 for Estates members and $20 for non members. To register call 334-7419, space is limited and reservations are required.

The Estates is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and is an official project of Save America's Treasures at the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Florida Historic Landmark. For additional information visit the Web site at www.efwefla.org.
