AARP: Lee Memorial one of nations best employers

A number of employers across the country, including Lee Memorial Health System are demonstrating that enlightened policies toward 50-plus employees make good business sense, based on the 2007 list of AARP Best Employers for Workers Over 50.

"We feel it is important to acknowledge employers who have implemented innovative policies that acknowledge the value of workers 50+ to the U.S. economy," said AARP State Director Lori Parham while announcing Florida's winners.

Lee Memorial was named the sixth best employer of people over 50 years of age and the highest rank of any Florida employer. "By putting employees first, the employer sees the positive results," Parham said. "50 and over employees bring valuable skills and experience, and it is important that all employers recognize this."

The Best Employers winners were honored at a dinner in New York on Sept. 26. A CEO roundtable discussion focusing on a new AARP study examining best practices for meeting the needs of 50-plus workers among international and multinational corporations representing G7 countries took place earlier that day.
