Volunteers needed to help cancer patients

The American Cancer Society's Road to Recovery Program is a vital patient service program in need of volunteers who are willing to drive cancer patients to and from their treatments. Volunteer drivers are needed to ensure that all patients are getting the care that they desperately need to get back on the "Road To Recovery."

A successful Road To Recovery Program can be a tremendous asset to the community. Volunteers provide an essential and necessary service. Even the greatest medical advance is useless if the patient cannot get to treatment.

The next driver training will be Oct. 30 from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m., at the American Cancer Society's Area Office located at 4575 Via Royale, suite 110 in Fort Myers.

Requirements for volunteering include having a good driving record, a valid driving license, and a vehicle that is in good working condition. For more information, please call Maureen Godin at 239-936-113 ext. 125.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem through research, education, advocacy, and service. In Florida, there are more than 65 American Cancer Society offices and approximately 65,000 active volunteers. For information about cancer, call toll-free anytime 1-800- ACS-2345 or visit the American Cancer Society Web site at www.cancer.org.
