Special Equestrians set open house at new facility

The board of directors of Special Equestrians is hosting an open house at their new permanent 10-acre location at 5121 Staley Road in Fort Myers on Saturday, Nov, 10, 2007 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. The open house is a thank you to the community for their support in reaching this 20-year goal of facility ownership.

The new facility has a 12-stall barn for the horses, a hay and equipment barn, a board fenced riding arena and caretaker home. The facility is also the site for the office and a large multipurpose room which is used for board meetings and special classroom lessons.

Providing more than 50 disabled children and adults each week with equestrianbased therapeutic treatment - a form of healing that uses horses and therapeutic riding techniques to improve both physical, mental and emotional well being - Special Equestrians has been in operation since 1987.

"Our volunteers committed over 10,000 hours of service last year," said Jan Fifer, President of Special Equestrians. "100 percent of all contributions go directly to the support of this program."
