Trash pickup days change
With Christmas and New Years days falling on a Tuesday, all garbage, yard waste, and recycling collections from Tuesday on are performed one day after the normally scheduled collection day. The collection schedule change affects all residents in unincorporated areas of Lee County as well as the City of Bonita Springs, and the Town of Fort Myers Beach.
If your regular trash pick up is on Monday, then, your collection day will remain unchanged . But, if the regular collection Day is Tuesday, it will be Wednesday; regular Wednesday collections are performed Thursday, and Thursday's collections will be on Friday, any regularly scheduled collections for Friday will be performed Saturday.
This holiday schedule is en effect through Jan. 5. Regular collection schedules resume Monday, Jan. 7.
During the holiday season we tend to generate a much more garbage than usual. A substantial portion, between 20 and 25 percent of it is recyclable. Aluminum pie tins, plastic and glass bottles, aluminum beverage cans, mayo and relish jars, plastic whipped topping tubs, all cardboard including gift and shoe boxes, wrapping paper (except foil wrapping), tissue paper, as well as sales fliers and catalogs, can be recycled. Cardboard boxes need to be flattened (very large boxes need to be broken down to 4 feet x 6 feet). Should customers find that they have more recyclable material than usual and the blue bin is already at capacity, a paper grocery bag may be used to accommodate the excess material. Cardboard can be neatly placed next to the recycling container. Please do not use plastic bags for containers of recyclable material.
