Shoot the Blueway photo contest

The Great Calusa Blueway Paddling Trail is hosting its first ever photo contest, "Shooting the Blueway." If you have an eye for photography, this is the perfect opportunity to capture the beauty of the blueway. Take a shot from your canoe or kayak on the Great Calusa Blueway, and you could win prizes and possibly publication of your winning picture.

The contest is divided into two different categories -- one for pictures of paddlers on the trail and one for nature photography. The contest is also separated into divisions by age groups -- youth, adult and senior. Each category/age division will have a winner. Prizes are yet to be determined, and selected entries may be featured on the Blueway Web site, www.greatcalusablueway. com. Winning photos may also be published in local newspapers, magazines or online.

Submissions must be e-mailed to Betsy Clayton, Lee County Parks & Recreation waterways coordinator, at bclayton@leegov. com no later than Sept. 1, 2008. The contest is limited to amateur photographers and two entries per photographer. Other rules can be found on the Web at www.calusabluewaypaddlingfestival. com. Submissions do not require an entry fee.

Winners will be announced at the 2008 Calusa Blueway Paddling Festival, Oct. 25-Nov. 2 in Lee County.
