Painting, drawing, raku, printmaking - whatever the medium, make it a career. It is possible to generate income while pursuing an artistic passion. Join artist Cheryl Jones Evans at the workshop "Art: Making a Living and a Life" on Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and explore exciting options available to live life the way you always wanted to.
This full day workshop presents artistic and financial life strategies to turn your art into a career. It will be held at the Alliance for the Arts on McGregor Blvd. The cost is $75 for non-members and $60 for members of the Alliance.
Topics on the workshop syllabus include: business basics for artists, marketing, tax issues, nurturing the inner artist, and much more. Cheryl's lessons will teach the art professional how to maintain high artistic standards, while surviving on a creative lifestyle budget and developing great business knowhow.
Cheryl Jones Evans holds classes all over the state. She is also the owner of "Studio e," located in Casselberry, just outside of Orlando. Her classes focus on helping individuals intensify, expand and clarify their creative talents in supportive group environments, and she leads a monthly gathering for creative individuals to share their stories.
As an artist herself, Cheryl specializes in layered paper pastel drawings. The first layer has no detail, just blocks of color. Then, a wet vellum layer is placed on the piece, which causes the image to blur and run. When it dries the cotton paper shrinks and cracks. After it has dried she goes back in with pastel pencil and begins bringing in detail. Most pieces have three layers, and some have as many as five. Each layer requires up to two days to complete.
Seating is limited, and pre-registration is suggested. Call 239-939-2787 to register.
The Alliance for the Arts galleries are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays, located at 10091 McGregor Boulevard just south of Colonial Boulevard. Visit www.artinlee.org for more details.
