Water & Wheels at Cape Harbour next week
SPECIAL TO FLORIDA WEEKLY

Cape Harbour presents "West Coast Water and Wheels" at The Marina at Cape Harbour from Feb. 22 to 24. Filling the marina with high-performance boats as well as custom wooden and luxury yachts, the event will also showcase rare classic cars, highend sports cars and motorcycles from local collectors.

Nearly every brand of watercraft will be represented by almost a dozen major dealers, including: Galati Yachts, Boaters Landing, Paradigm Yacht Sales, Duffy Electric Boats, Cape Yacht Management, Marine Max, Dolphin International, Bayside Yacht Sales, Island Yachting Centre, Walker Yacht Sales and Allied Richard Bertram.

For true boat enthusiasts, the highlight of the weekend will be the opportunity to meet Col. Hugh Saint, one of the world's premiere custom wooden boat builders. Saint and his team of craftsmen design, build and restore marine masterpieces for yacht aficionados the world over. Locally, their most well-known creation may be Realmark President Will Stout's classic 36-foot Honduran Mahogany Runabout "Rumrunner," which will be on display during the weekend along with other Saint custom wood vessels.

Live entertainment, gourmet food and fine wine, rowing exhibitions, competitions and Gulf Coast sunsets will highlight the weekend of outdoor fun. The festivities kick-off early Friday evening with live R&B music by The Bunche Band from 6 to 10 p.m. at Expo Island in The Promenade center and "Sax with Soul" by Jazz saxophonist Vinnie Mistchitelli from 6 - 8 p.m. Also that evening, The Banana Bay Tour Company's two-hour sunset cruise will depart from the dock behind Rumrunners at 5:15 p.m.

On Saturday, the Charlotte Harbor Paddlers will demonstrate Dragon Boat racing, where 20 athletes propel one long, narrow boat adorned with decorative Chinese dragon heads and tails through the water. Other Saturday events include wine tastings at The Joint and Rumrunners from 3 - 6 p.m., sunset dinner along The Marina by Pignoli-An Epicurean Marketplace from 6 - 9 p.m. and live music by rock cover band Soapy Tuna from 6 - 10 p.m.

The weekend culminates with the Cape Coral Rowing Club's Inaugural Corporate Challenge, beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday. Local police, firefighters, Rotarians and business employees have been training since January to face off in this worldclass rowing event.
