Cape only post office open late on tax filing day

Last-minute tax filers in Lee County will have to trek to Cape Coral this year. Due to construction at the Page Field Main Post Office, extended hours for Tax Night, April 15, will not be offered.

Procrastinators will be able to obtain full retail service at the Cape Coral Central Post Office, 1030 SE 9th Ave, Cape Coral until 9 p.m. The last collection of mail at this Cape Coral location will also be 9 p.m. This will be the only extension of hours or service in the Fort Myers area.

The Fort Myers Processing & Distribution Center located at 14080 Jetport Loop Rd, Fort Myers will offer a special midnight collection of mail from the outside blue collection boxes at that facility for an April 15 postmark. However, there are no retail services such as stamp sales offered at Jetport.

In previous years, more than 1,000 taxfilers took advantage of the extended service hours until midnight and special drive through "drop off" for tax returns.
